The best debate in world football after Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo is Marcus Rashford and Kelechi Iheanacho who is better?
Both players broke onto the scene last season for Manchester United and Manchester City respectively and created huge impacts which they have carried into this season rated as the most competitive in the history of the premier league.
The poll of talents emerging from across the world is amazing but none quite sets the tune more than Rashford and Iheanacho.
Marcus Rashford
At 18, he has already scored on his Manchester United debut, England debut both for the Three Lions and Under-21. He scored on his Europa League debut, scored twice in his first game against Arsenal and registered the only goal in last season’s Manchester derby which was his first.
Rashford’s pace is his major asset and he is awesomely calm in front of goal and scores with panache as seen in his last game for the England U-21’s where he scored a hat-trick to help them to a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Norway.
Kelechi Iheanacho
He was voted the most valuable player at the Under-17 FIFA World Cup in 2013 when he finished with six goals and seven assists as Nigeria lifted the trophy.
He followed that up with a great first season for Manchester City where he scored vital goals for the Citizens. The late winner against Crystal Palace in the premier league opened the doors for more as he went on to score seven more on his debut season with a hat-trick in the Capital One Cup against Aston Villa one of the highlights of his debut season.
Iheanacho is not the fastest player around but he is sure one of the most intelligent players on the field. He positions himself very well, doesn’t miss target much and has a good pass on him too.
Rashford vs Iheanacho: Head-to-head
This season, both players have played only substitute roles under Jose Mourinho and Pep Gurdiola so far but as the season progresses they will surely be more involved with regular starts.
Going into the Manchester derby, Marcus Rashford and Kelechi Iheanacho will be oozing with confidence after spectacular weekends on international duty.
Rashford netted the winner against Hull City in Manchester United’s last game before scoring a hat-trick for England’s Under-21 while Iheanacho who just signed a contract extension until 2021 for City scored a wonder goal for Nigeria as they beat Tanzania 1-0 in the final Group G match of the 2017 African Nations Cup qualifier. The goal was on Thursday voted the Goal of the Week by CNN which is a huge compliment to the player’s ability.
Last season, Rashford completed a total of 855minutes in 11 premier league games for Manchester United, scoring five times while Iheanacho played 799 minutes in 26 appearances, scoring eight goals – his overall scoring ratio was rated better than Cristaino Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
All Rashford’s goals in the premier league came from inside the box while Iheancho had seven from inside the box and one from outside the 18yard which came against Southampton.
They may not be the headline stars going into the Manchester derby as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola and David Silva will be viewed as key men but these two are definitely stars to be reckoned with and may just decide the way the Saturday lunch-time kick off will go.
