Victor Anichebe was not offered a new contract at West Brom and he has rejoined the manager, who gave him his first break in the English Premier League – David Moyes, at Sunderland.
The former Super Eagles striker said he was happy to join the Black Cats because of Moyes.
“I’m really happy to be here at a great club,” Anichebe told Sunderland’s official website.
“I have a lot of good friends here and everyone knows that I know the manager really well.
“He brought me through as a young player and was a big factor in me coming here.
“I had a few options in England and Europe but the manager was a huge pull for me. He knows me inside out and I feel like he can get the best out of me.”
While at Everton, Anichebe, now 28, who won a silver medal with the Dream Team at the Beijing Olympics, played 168 games and scored 26 goals.
He left the Toffees at the beginning of the 2013/14 season to join West Brom, where he played 61 times and returned just nine goals.
