Eagles star using Tanzania game for World Cup bid

Elderson Echiejile
Nigeria defender Elderson Echiejile says he hopes they get a good result tomorrow when they face Tanzania in an inconsequential Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The Super Eagles are at home to the Taifa Stars on Saturday and even though both sides have already failed to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations, Echiejile is hoping for a win nonetheless.
“We are prepared to have a good game, to play as a team and to have a very good result,” Echiejile said in an interview with Lagos-based radio station, Lagos Talks FM.
The left-back is one of the players in the Nigeria camp in Uyo ahead of the game, and like most of his teammates, he believes the game against Tanzania will them get in shape ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers which begins next month.
“It is important for us because we have to qualify for the World Cup but so far everything is going very well,” he added.
The Super Eagles begin their World Cup qualifying campaign with an away tie against the Chipolopolo of Zambia next month, before hosting Algeria in the second game in November.
The game against Tanzania will however be the first test for new Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr.
